Samara Weaving And Nicholas Braun Set To Lead Environmental Thriller Hivemind
Samara Weaving is adding another major project to her growing list of upcoming roles following her recent casting in X-Men. The Australian actress is set to headline the new environmental thriller Hivemind alongside Nicholas Braun.
Weaving first gained widespread recognition through a series of horror films, including Mayhem (2017), The Babysitter (2017), Ready or Not (2019), The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020), Scream VI (2023), and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026). In July 2026, she was also announced as Emma Frost in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe X-Men film.
According to Deadline, Weaving will now join Succession star Nicholas Braun in Hivemind. The film follows the emergence of a dangerous new species of killer wasps and the small-town authorities who must work together to stop a potentially devastating global outbreak.
Irish filmmaker Ciarán Foy will direct Hivemind from a screenplay by Peter Gaffney, whose previous work includes Yeti and Don’t Go in the Water. Production on the environmental thriller is currently underway in Dublin.
The project is being developed by Thunder Road and Badlands, with Amazon MGM Studios also joining the production. The film is expected to receive an international release on Prime Video.
The producing team includes Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Diarmaid McGrath for Thunder Road, along with Scott Strauss for Badlands. Macdara Kelleher and John Keville are producing for Wild Atlantic Pictures, while Adam Rodin and screenwriter Peter Gaffney are also attached as producers. Jon Shiffman and Andrew Schwartzberg will serve as executive producers.
Weaving is enjoying a particularly busy year, with roles in three films—Carolina Caroline, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and Over Your Dead Body—before landing the role of Emma Frost in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie. She will join a cast that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.
Braun, meanwhile, remains best known for playing Cousin Greg in HBO’s Succession, a performance that earned him three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. More recently, he appeared in The Sheep Detectives (2026) and is also set to star in The Entertainment System Is Down, written and directed by two-time Oscar nominee Ruben Östlund, known for Triangle of Sadness.
Foy made his feature directorial debut with the psychological horror film Citadel in 2012. He later directed Sinister 2 (2015) and Eli (2019), and also worked on episodes of Netflix series including The Haunting of Bly Manor and Sweet Tooth.
With Weaving and Braun leading the cast, Foy behind the camera, and a story centered on a deadly new threat, Hivemind is shaping up to be a dark, unsettling, and unpredictable environmental thriller.
