Jessica Chastain’s ‘Heartland’ Sets Netflix Release Date as First-Look Images Reveal Mystery Thriller
Jessica Chastain is set to return to the screen with Heartland, a new mystery thriller coming to Netflix this fall. The streaming platform has announced the film’s release date and unveiled several first-look images featuring the Oscar-winning actress.
Chastain joined the project last fall and leads a cast that includes Garrett Hedlund, Carter Faith, Ross Lynch, Jennifer Nettles and John Hawkes. The film is directed by Shana Feste, who previously helmed Country Strong, which received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Song.
Heartland will premiere on Netflix on Friday, November 13, 2026. Chastain stars as Misty Jones, a retired country music legend who is unexpectedly drawn back into the spotlight after her niece, an emerging country music star, disappears.
Determined to uncover the truth, Misty travels through the darker side of Nashville in search of her missing niece. Her investigation gradually exposes disturbing secrets surrounding both the city and her own past, setting the stage for a mystery filled with unexpected revelations.
Netflix has released eight first-look images from the movie. One image shows Chastain as Misty walking through a wooded area while carrying a gun. Another features her dressed entirely in black and wearing a cowboy hat as she prepares to perform alongside Jennifer Nettles’ character, Winnie Jo Lean.
Before Heartland, Chastain built an acclaimed film career with appearances in movies including Zero Dark Thirty, The Martian, Interstellar, Molly’s Game, Dark Phoenix, It Chapter Two and The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Her television work includes starring roles in Scenes from a Marriage and George & Tammy. In addition to winning an Academy Award, Chastain has received major recognition from the Golden Globes, Actor Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards, along with Emmy, Tony and BAFTA nominations.
Heartland also brings together several performers with connections to the country music world. Jennifer Nettles, best known as one half of the country duo Sugarland, is among the film’s notable cast members.
Nettles has built an acting career alongside her music work, appearing in projects such as Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, Harriet, The Exorcist: Believer and The Righteous Gemstones. She has also performed on Broadway, taking on the roles of Roxie Hart in Chicago and Jenna in Waitress.
Carter Faith, who plays Misty’s niece in Heartland, is also an established country singer and songwriter. She has released several EPs and followed them with her debut full-length album, Cherry Valley, in October 2025. The album earned her an Academy of Country Music Award nomination for Album of the Year.
Faith is scheduled to tour this fall, including headline dates and supporting appearances alongside artists such as Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves and Shaboozey. Heartland marks her acting debut.
With Netflix now confirming the release date and revealing the first-look images, a full trailer for Heartland could arrive in the coming weeks.
