Brad Pitt And David Ayer Bring ‘Heart Of The Beast’ To San Sebastian Film Festival
Brad Pitt and filmmaker David Ayer are set to attend this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival with their upcoming film, Heart of the Beast.
The Paramount Pictures production will be presented out of competition at the Spanish festival, with both Pitt and Ayer expected to be in attendance. Pitt stars in the film as a former Special Forces officer who is forced to fight for survival in the Alaskan wilderness after a devastating plane crash. He is joined on the journey by his retired military combat dog.
The festival appearance will mark Pitt’s first visit to San Sebastian since 2009, when he attended the event to present Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
Ayer is known for directing films including Training Day, End of Watch, Suicide Squad, Sabotage and The Tax Collector. Heart of the Beast is written by Cameron Alexander and marks another collaboration between Ayer and Pitt, who previously worked together on the 2014 war drama Fury.
The cast also features J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. Pitt is among the film’s producers, working alongside Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen and Ayer. Damien Chazelle is one of the film’s executive producers.
The inclusion of Heart of the Beast completes the official selection for the 74th San Sebastian Film Festival. This year’s program features 17 films competing for awards, along with three out-of-competition titles and five special screenings.
The festival will open with Ghost Song, directed by Fatih Akin, while Michaël R. Roskam’s Le Faux Soir has been selected as the closing film. Other notable projects in the lineup include Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, Pablo Larraín’s My Sad Dead and Jaime Lorente’s The Bad Son.
Among the competition titles is Milo, a French drama directed by Nicole Garcia and starring Marion Cotillard and Lurker actor Théodore Pellerin. The competition also includes In My Father’s Room, the directorial debut of Japanese novelist Maha Harada.
German filmmaker Werner Herzog will also be honored at the festival with the prestigious Donostia Award.
