Jessica Chastain’s Heartland Sets November 13 Netflix Premiere

Netflix is set to premiere Heartland on November 13, bringing together country music, mystery and thriller elements in a new film led by Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.

Chastain stars as Misty Jones, a former country music star who left the spotlight behind and is now searching for her missing niece, played by real-life country singer-songwriter Carter Faith. As Misty gets closer to discovering what happened, the investigation begins to uncover secrets that pull her further into the darker side of Nashville.

The Netflix Original also features John Hawkes, Garrett Hedlund, Jennifer Nettles, Ross Lynch, Ben Dickey, Isabelle Kusman and Wynn Everett. The film is written and directed by Shana Feste, who previously directed the country music drama Country Strong. While that film focused on a different side of the music industry, Heartland takes a considerably darker approach.

The approximately two-minute trailer introduces viewers to Chastain’s Misty and her return to the world she once dominated. Her search for her niece appears to become increasingly complicated, with others becoming involved and new information raising even more questions about what really happened.

Music also plays an important role in Heartland. The soundtrack features performances from Chastain, three-time Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles, Ross Lynch and Country Music Award nominee Carter Faith. The film’s musical lineup also includes Margo Price, Carly Pearce, Eddy Dunlap, Channing Wilson and Dave “Fergie” Ferguson.

Heartland is the latest directorial project from Feste, whose previous credits include 2009’s The Greatest, 2014’s Endless Love, 2018’s Boundaries and the 2020 horror thriller Run Sweetheart Run. However, she may be best known for Country Strong, which starred Gwyneth Paltrow as Kelly Canter, a country music star and recovering alcoholic attempting to restart her career. Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund also appeared in the film, making Heartland a reunion of sorts between Feste and Hedlund.

While Heartland has plenty of music for fans of country-focused dramas such as Nashville, the film also appears to embrace the darker, mystery-driven tone that has helped shows such as Yellowstone and Landman find audiences on streaming platforms.

With Jessica Chastain leading a notable ensemble cast and a story combining country music with mystery and thriller elements, Heartland could make a strong impact when it arrives on Netflix later this year.
