Harry Potter: HBO Series Reveals New Poster

HBO has unveiled a new poster for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, giving fans another look at Dominic McLaughlin as the famous young wizard ahead of the show’s December 25 premiere.

The original Harry Potter film franchise starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley across eight movies released between 2001 and 2011. Now, 15 years after the final film arrived, HBO is bringing J.K. Rowling’s popular fantasy series back to the screen with a new cast and a television adaptation.

The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is based on the opening book in the franchise. HBO recently shared its latest promotional poster on Instagram, highlighting the new version of the beloved character.

The artwork features a close-up of McLaughlin as Harry, highlighting his familiar round glasses and the lightning-shaped scar associated with his childhood encounter with Lord Voldemort. The poster also incorporates Hogwarts, reflected in Harry’s glasses, offering fans a glimpse of the magical school in HBO’s adaptation.

The new promotional image arrives shortly after HBO announced additional casting details for the series on October 27. Jasper Talbot, known for Broadchurch, will portray James Potter, while Hannah Chinn, who appeared in The Conjuring: Last Rites, has been cast as Lily Potter.

The announcement also revealed that Harry Gilby, known for The Last Kingdom, will play Charlie Weasley, Ron’s older brother. The character did not appear in the original film adaptations, making his inclusion another opportunity for the television series to explore more of the original book’s characters.

HBO’s Harry Potter Series Will Expand the First Book’s Story

Unlike the original film, which runs for approximately two and a half hours, HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will explore the first book across eight episodes. The longer format will allow the series to include additional characters and storylines that were not featured in the movies.

Among the characters joining the adaptation are Charlie Weasley and Peeves, the Hogwarts poltergeist, who will be portrayed by Peter Serafinowicz. Their inclusion highlights how the television version can explore more of the wizarding world and its characters.

HBO has also confirmed that the series will continue beyond its first season. The network renewed Harry Potter for a second season in May, with the next instalment based on the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Season 2 has already attracted attention following the casting announcement of Kit Harington, best known for playing Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. He will portray Gilderoy Lockhart, Hogwarts’ new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Harington previously voiced the character in the Audible-exclusive Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions.

He takes over the role from Nicholas Hoult, who departed the project due to scheduling conflicts.

With its first season approaching, HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is preparing to introduce a new generation of viewers to the wizarding world while bringing familiar characters and additional book details to the screen.
