Extraction 3: Major Netflix Sequel Update

Extraction 3: Major Netflix Sequel Update

Chris Hemsworth’s highly anticipated Netflix action sequel, Extraction 3, has officially wrapped filming, marking a major milestone for the popular action franchise.

Hemsworth will return as Tyler Rake, a former Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) operator who works as an independent mercenary specializing in black-ops missions. Director Sam Hargrave is also returning, while Joe Russo will serve as producer and co-writer alongside David Weil. Production on the third installment began in July 2026.

Hemsworth confirmed the production update through an Instagram post featuring images from Thailand, where filming took place. His post reflected on his time in the country, highlighting the filming and training involved during production. The update also provides confirmation of Thailand as one of the filming locations, alongside earlier reports that the movie would shoot in Australia and Europe. However, Hemsworth did not reveal any plot details or announce a release date.

Several familiar faces will return for the sequel. Golshifteh Farahani will reprise her role as Nik Khan, Tyler Rake’s mercenary partner, while Idris Elba will return as Alcott, whom he portrayed in Extraction 2. Don Lee joins the cast as Tygo, a new mercenary character with a background as a child soldier. The confirmed cast also includes Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry, Siena Agudong, and Pierce Brosnan. The action thriller is being produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, alongside Wild State and T.G.I.M Films.

Beyond Extraction 3, Hemsworth has several other projects in the pipeline. He is set to return as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December 2026, marking his 11th film appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also starring in Subversion, an action thriller, and Kockroach, a crime thriller. Both films are currently in post-production. With filming on Extraction 3 complete, Hemsworth’s next major project remains unclear.

The third installment faces high expectations following the positive reception of Extraction 2. With the creative team behind the first two movies returning, the sequel is positioned to continue the franchise’s action-driven approach. The series is also expanding beyond the main films with Tygo, a South Korean spin-off starring Don Lee as the character of the same name. Directed by Lee Sang-yong and written by Cha Woo-jin, the spin-off is currently in post-production, although its release date has not been announced.

Now that Extraction 3 has completed filming, attention will turn to Netflix for further details about its release schedule. It remains unknown whether the sequel or Tygo will arrive first, but both projects point toward the franchise’s continued expansion. For now, fans can look forward to further updates as Netflix prepares the next chapter in the Extraction universe.
