Squid Game Season 2: How Gi-hun Could Take Down The Front Man

Squid Game winner Seong Gi-hun could take down the Front Man in the second season of the popular Netflix survival drama. Gi-hun is not only the sole survivor and winner of the death games, he’s also the character that’s most likely to return for Squid Game season 2. And his return could spell loads of trouble for the secretive criminal organization that runs the titular Squid Game.

At the end of Squid Game’s final episode, Gi-hun goes to the airport to finally follow through on his promises of seeing and being with his daughter, who is in the U.S. with her father and Gi-hun’s ex-wife. As Gi-hun makes his way to the airport, he encounters Squid Game’s recruiter and then manages to snatch a Squid Game card from a would-be player. While Gi-hun is in the line for boarding his flight, he calls the number on the card, finds out that the next Squid Game is underway, and gets told by the Front Man to get on the plane for his good. However, Gi-hun doesn’t get on the plane, and instead storms out of the airport, with a look that infers that he’s planning to move against the games.

Indeed, the evidence has been pointing to the fact that Gi-hun is returning to try to take down not just the Front Man, but the entire Squid Game organization as well. Gi-hun certainly has all the resources he needs to prepare for confronting the Front Man, which can happen in several ways. For instance, while it seems preposterous for the good-natured Gi-hun to challenge In-ho for the title of Squid Game Front Man, Gi-hun could be convinced to do it if it means having a chance to destroy Squid Game from within. This is congruent with the theory that old man Oh Il-name is Gi-hun’s dad, and that Il-Nam wanted to hand over control of the Squid Game organization to Gi-hun before he died. If this is the case, then the organization could welcome Gi-hun’s return as a worthy challenge to In-ho’s position as the Front Man, as this would fulfill the last wishes of the Squid Game founder. And in turn, Gi-hun could use his new position of power to bring the entire organization to its knees.

Another way for Gi-hun’s revenge plan to go down is if he infiltrates Squid Game as a worker and not as a player in the death games. This would give Gi-hun much greater access to the different locations on the island, which he wasn’t allowed to explore as a player. As infiltrating the games would be a practical approach for Gi-hun to carry out his plans, it’s one of the biggest Squid Game theories for season 2. Moreover, this would allow Gi-hun to enlist the help of Jun-ho, who’s not only likely to still be alive but also has firsthand experience when it comes to exploring Squid Game’s island and gathering evidence. Apart from teaming up with Jun-ho, Gi-hun’s potential plan to become a worker on the island could also set up the inevitable confrontation between him and the Front Man.

Although Gi-hun’s final plan remains to be seen, what’s sure is that Gi-hun wants to take down Squid Game and that the best way is to do it from the inside. Considering how Squid Game’s grand prize is still mostly untouched in Gi-hun’s bank account, he might even consider infiltrating the organization by donning one of Squid Game’s golden VIP animal masks. This could be an easy way for Gi-hun to anonymously gain access to the island, and from a higher vantage point than if he infiltrates the island as a worker or outright challenges In-ho for the Front Man position. In any case, only Squid Game season 2 can truly resolve these and other related speculations about Gi-hun and the Front Man’s future.
