Sky High – A Heist Thriller with Plot Twists & Pinch of Romance
If you enjoyed watching “Money heist” and are a fan of that series, then Netflix’s new Spanish thriller Sky High will be right up your alley. The movie is a perfect mixture of a suspenseful heist full of double-crosses with a pinch of romance.
A handsome loner Angel (Miguel Herran) makes his money as a mechanic and he passes his time by flicking off the high-rise buildings from the hills outside Madrid. When the local criminal Poli (Richard Holmes) offers him a spot on his team of heisters, he immediately accepts it and performs his first job.
Of course, Angel’s jewellery store heisting lands him in prison where his cocky attitude draws the anger of Duque (Fernando Cayo), who is a detective chasing Poli and his team for quite a long time. With the help of a shady lawyer Mercedes (Patricia Vico), Angel is back in the crime business and is now expanding his criminal business.
But this puts him on the radar of the underworld’s big criminal Rogelio (Luis Tosar). Angel’s ambitions have put him into quite a pickle both business and love-wise. Angel is thinking he is smarter than everyone but there is someone who’s making higher moves, even though his ambitions reach sky high.
The movie surely gives you some of the great chase and heist sequences with a well-edited plot the film surely leaves you with a mystery of time passage. You won’t find a single moment that gives you room to breathe or develop, including the moments before and after the robberies. Coupled with some good performances and scenes, Sky High earns a slot in people’s minds with some goodwill.
Sky High was a massive hit in Spanish Cinemas and Netflix quickly bought the international rights. Netflix also plans to adapt Sky High into a TV series that develops from the movie’s climactic finish. But to that end, the similarity between Netflix’s Spanish-made hit “Money Heist” and “Sky High” just becomes crystal clear along with Money Heist Co-star Miguel Herran playing the lead character in Sky High.
Carolina Yuste is excellent as Estrella. She is fierce, feisty, and the only one who can keep Angel in control. The central romance between Estrella and Angel is a timely chance for Carolina and Miguel to showcase their natural charm and easy-going chemistry.
Star crossed love story, Aspirational Daydream, high-end heist, a cautionary tale, Double and Triple crosses, thrilling story, Sky High has everything to keep everyone interested. Sky High is perfectly suitable for a heist movie with the team, the plan, the job, the Getaway, the betrayals along with solid writing, and great character development.
