What We Know About ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 So Far

Black Mirror made its return to Netflix for a sixth season in the summer of 2023 after a three-year hiatus. Despite facing challenges due to not being owned by Netflix and the departure of the original creators, the show released five episodes on June 15th, 2023. These episodes included “Beyond the Sea,” “Mazey Day,” “Joan is Awful,” “Loch Henry,” and “Demon 79.”
Regarding the future, there is confirmation of a seventh season. However, Netflix has not officially announced it yet, maintaining silence on the show’s fate. The renewal news surfaced on November 21st, 2023, through two tweets from Netflix France, later deleted. The second tweet explicitly mentioned the return of Black Mirror for Season 7.
Broke & Bones, the production company led by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, is also working on a new drama for Netflix titled “Toxic Town,” expected to arrive in 2024. Jessica Rhoades, under Pacesetter Productions, is involved in producing new episodes for Black Mirror Season 7.
The first episode of Season 7, codenamed “Haven Green,” completed filming in late November 2023. Details about the plot and cast will be revealed later. Additionally, there are rumors of another project titled “HAVEN GREEN,” a 5-episode series, in development since September 2023.
The USS Callister spinoff series, based on the Emmy-winning episode, is progressing, aiming for production to start in Spring 2024. The spinoff is expected to consist of three episodes, with most of the original cast returning. Toby Haynes, director of “Demon 79” and “USS Callister,” is confirmed to direct the first episode of Black Mirror Season 7 and is also signed up for the USS Callister spinoff. David Slade, known for his work on Bandersnatch and Season 4’s “Metalhead,” will direct the second episode of Season 7.
Despite not being owned by Netflix, Black Mirror continues to be a top performer, securing a spot in the global top 10s for four weeks during Season 6. With 163.80 million hours watched, the show demonstrated strong viewership, making its renewal likely. Spin-offs, including a USS Callister sequel and the potential exploration of the Red Mirror label introduced in Season 5, are still under consideration.
