Recently, the government and authorities of UK claimed that sharing passwords of various entertainment platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO and others is illegal as the statement given by Intellectual Property Office.
The statement was give after consideration of laws which were affected while performing this act of sharing OTT password to other non subscribed users. This action would treated as supporting in copyright of protected works without any payment, breaching of contractual terms and conditions, fraud 9r secondary copyright infringement, depending upon the circumstances on which the law acts differently.
The Intellectual Property Office Guidelines seems quite strict on their rules and regulations but none of such kind of announcement is made by the teams of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO and other streaming platforms.
Instead, Netflix revealed of a different strategy to take this issue into consideration. In spite of illegalizing the entire situation and loosing subscribers and viewers. Netflix has added the feature of adding two different accounts on the same ID but each of them will have to pay $2.9 for doing so. By doing this neither the viewers will get disappointed nor the company will have to face any sort of losses.
To this the team of Netflix also revealed about it’s loss of numerous viewers in Q1 phase but soon it regained those in the Q3 phase.
