Extraction 3: Chris Hemsworth Shares A New Look At His Training

Chris Hemsworth has shared a new look at his training for Extraction 3, the next installment in the action thriller franchise.

Following the success of the first film in 2020, Hemsworth returned as mercenary Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, which was released in 2023. Production on Extraction 3, directed by returning filmmaker Sam Hargrave, began in July. The upcoming film will see Rake take on another dangerous mission.

In addition to Thailand, the third installment is reportedly being filmed at several locations across Australia. This represents a change from Extraction 2, which was filmed primarily in the Czech Republic and Austria to complement the movie’s cold-weather setting.

The first Extraction film was set in Bangladesh and filmed in India, Thailand, and Bangladesh. Although Extraction 3 does not yet have an official release date, the film could arrive late next year, with production having been underway for several months.

While the plot details remain undisclosed, the ending of Extraction 2 may offer clues about the direction of the next film. After defeating the main villain, Tyler is taken to prison alongside his partner, Nik, played by Golshifteh Farahani. The film concludes with Tyler being recruited for another mission by a mysterious character portrayed by Idris Elba.

The complete cast list for Extraction 3 has not been announced. However, Elba is expected to return alongside Farahani. New cast members include Pierce Brosnan, Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry, and Siena Agudong. Their respective roles remain unknown, although one of the new additions could play the film’s main antagonist.

Although several details about Extraction 3 remain under wraps, the first two films have generally received positive responses. Both installments recorded strong viewership on Netflix, while the first film earned a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and its sequel received an improved score of 79%. The franchise has been praised for its action sequences and choreography, with Hargrave drawing on his background as a stunt performer to help elevate the action.

Filming on Extraction 3 appears to be approaching its final stages. Six years after the original film, Hemsworth is continuing his preparation for the role of Tyler Rake. The upcoming installment could feature an even more dangerous version of the mercenary as the Netflix action thriller franchise prepares for its next chapter.
