10 Great Better Call Saul Theories We’re Sad Never Came True

Better Call Saul spawned all kinds of fan theories, and while most of them didn’t come true, we’re sad these 10 theories were proven wrong by the end of the series. Better Call Saul had all kinds of ties to Breaking Bad, with the prequel series dedicating much of its run time to setting up the events of the critically acclaimed series. Because of this, fans speculated that even more connections to Breaking Bad would be made, although many of these didn’t happen. So, whether it was a connection to a different timeline or speculation on a character’s fate, it’s a shame these 10 Better Call Saul theories remained unfulfilled.
Better Call Saul finally wrapped up in 2022 with the conclusion of the show’s sixth and final season. The series took a look at an earlier point in the Breaking Bad universe, giving audiences the origins of characters like Saul Goodman, Gus Fring, and Mike Ehrmantraut. While the series did fulfill a lot of classic Breaking Bad theories, Better Call Saul opened up some theories of its own, with plenty of details about characters like Kim Wexler, Howard Hamlin, and Lalo Salamanca being left out. These theories would have been incredible if they were included, but sadly Better Call Saul didn’t make them canon.

Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul finale
From the beginning of the series, viewers knew that Better Call Saul would have to somehow answer where Kim was in Breaking Bad. Some speculated that Kim would die, and others speculated that she would completely disappear. However, the most exciting theory was always that she was secretly working with Jimmy throughout Breaking Bad. As it turns out, though, Kim wanted nothing to do with Jimmy, hiding out in Florida throughout Breaking Bad.

Kim Would Use The Vacuum Guy To Disappear

Sticking with the fate of Kim Wexler, another popular Better Call Theory was that she would use Breaking Bad’s vacuum guy to disappear. By Breaking Bad’s timeline, Saul is well aware of Ed Galbraith and his operation, meaning that he had to have become involved with it in Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul’s Dr. Caldera has Ed Galbraith’s card during the series, further backing this theory. While Kim does disappear, it doesn’t seem that she uses the help of Ed Galbraith to do so, missing the perfect opportunity for a Breaking Bad tie-in.

Saul Goodman in Better Call Saul season 6, episode 9
While Jimmy and Saul Goodman are the same people, the version of Saul that is seen in Breaking Bad is undoubtedly much darker and more cynical than his Better Call Saul counterpart. Some viewers speculated that this drastic character shift would be caused by a huge change in Jimmy’s life: Kim’s death. However, Jimmy’s transition into his new persona is much more subtle, with him taking on the Saul Goodman name while Kim is still in his life. His transformation into a fully-fledged criminal lawyer is triggered by his loss of Kim, but it’s due to her leaving him rather than her death.

In Breaking Bad, Saul has two enforcers: Huell and Kuby. While Better Call Saul goes in-depth in explaining the origins of Jimmy’s friendship with Huell, Kuby isn’t even mentioned in the series. As it turns out, Bill Burr’s Better Call Saul appearance was supposed to happen in season 5, but it had to be cut due to scheduling conflicts. It’s a shame this couldn’t happen, as Saul’s relationship with Kuby would have been one of the most exciting revelations in the prequel.
