10 Breaking Bad And Better Call Saul Actors That Could Portray MCU Characters

Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and by extension, El Camino boasts such a spectacular cast that any other franchise would be truly lucky to have them. The Marvel Cinematic Universe picks from the best of the best and there is a range of brilliant comic book characters that these professionals could portray.

With new casting announcements always just around the corner, it would be no surprise to see a few of these names pop up in the coming months. There’s a precedent for it after all, and the actors from this universe have managed to portray such a wide arrange of abilities, from perfect comedic timing to tense dramatic sequences.

Pre-Existing Appearances

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already mined the talent pool from Better Call Saul to help fill out its ranks. Two major characters from the show have made a significant impact on screen and will very likely appear again in the future. However, while one was an anti-hero and the other a villain in Better Call Saul, their roles have now shifted.

Michael Mando portrays Nacho Varga in Better Call Saul, an ambitious kid who gets in way over his head. He suits up as Scorpian in Spider-Man: Homecoming and there’s a sense he’ll be back. Tony Dalton will be well known for playing Lalo Salamanca, but in Hawkeye, he’s the loveable yet questionable Swordsman! Plus, Kristen Ritter from Breaking Bad shouldn’t be overlooked as Jessica Jones, but her MCU status is unclear.

Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul really can do anything. He’s taken on some fantastic roles in his career and while he’ll be best known for playing Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad and El Camino, he recently returned to Westworld as Caleb, which continues to show his vast range.

Paul is great at playing characters with real depth and while the anti-hero role usually fits him, he might be better off as a villain in the MCU. The Hood is the kind of crook that requires a capacity to demonstrate a range of complex emotions and Paul might be excellent for the part.

Bob Odenkirk

Bob Odenkirk portrays Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. As arguably one of the smartest characters in the universe, he’s managed to survive every conceivable situation, with Odenkirk allowing both his comedic and dramatic skills to come to the forefront.

No one else could take on this character, he’s just too iconic. But for Marvel, Odenkirk needs someone who can tow that same line; an over-the-top caricature with a washed-up edge. Odekirk could thus be Wonder Man, an actor who’s had his heyday and is looking for a shot of stardom in the superhero world.

Rhea Seehorn

There’s nothing Rhea Seehorn can’t do. Across Better Call Saul she plays Kim Wexler, who is also the lead of the show considering how vital she is to Jimmy’s arc and the unfolding drug-fuelled universe. The actress is nothing short of extraordinary and steals every scene she’s in.

Seehorn delivers everything with real wisdom and clarity, but there always seems to be something deeper going on. Ultimately, Abigail Brand is the character that most fits with Seehorn’s talents. While she might be an action hero, she’s also a diplomat and politician; a government agency that has to see things in gray.

Jonathan Banks

Jonathan Banks has had the privilege to take on one of the best character arcs across both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad while portraying Mike Ehrmantraut. The grizzled leader has found himself working in the underworld far longer than he would have liked.

There’s something professional, slightly manipulative yet good-hearted about Mike, which is all very deliberate from Banks. Henry Peter Gyrich is the type of organizer who controls from the shadows that Banks could portray, toeing the line between being a helpful mentor and benefactor, and someone with a wider set of unknown goals.

Patrick Fabian

Patrick Fabian seems pretty slick in his portrayal of Howard Hamlin, the lawyer who seems to have everything in check. At heart, he’s a good man, but he has a big ego and is unpredictable and untrusted. Throughout Better Call Saul, Fabian ensured that the audience couldn’t take their eyes off Hamlin.

If he was to be brought into the MCU, he’d need to play a character that was comfortable in the business world but hiding a dark truth. Dario Agger is maybe the best-placed figure for Fabian to become. As a Roxxon leader, he’s corrupt to the core and can transform into the Minotaur of myth. Yet he still seems charming and approachable.

Giancarlo Esposito

Giancarlo Esposito is an iconic actor and plays one of the best villains of all time, not just on TV but in cinema in general. Gus Fring is an absolute powerhouse, but Esposito wouldn’t be unfamiliar with the notion of portraying other antagonists on the big and small screen.

It’s almost a matter of when rather than if Esposito makes the jump to the MCU. There are so many villains that he could take on, from Doctor Doom to Norman Osborn. But, Magneto might be the best fit, with Giancarlo getting to play an anti-hero with a haunting past, and a genuine ideology for a better future.

Laura Fraser

Laura Fraser might have taken on a supporting character, but she’s appeared in Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and El Camino as Lydia Rodarte-Quayle. She was an unexpected antagonist, one that never wanted to get her hands dirty but was always ready with a plan.

There’s a gray to her portrayal of the character and that could work well for someone like Moira MacTaggert. While she is largely a hero, there’s an added set of layers recently given to the Mutant, who seemingly reboots her reality again and again. Fraser could help to define the next phase of the X-Men as the doctor.

Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston’s performance of Walter White is completely historic. It’s fair to say that it changed what TV really could be, helping to define Breaking Bad as a standout in its medium. He carried the show with such dignity and strength, and the MCU would be all the better for having him.

He can do comedy so well and has returned to that quite often recently, but fans want to see Cranston take on a true villain again. Norman Osborn would be excellent for Cranston, who could throw his full acting weight behind such an important role. Cranston and Tom Holland would surely have great chemistry together.

Jesse Plemons

There’s not a role that Jesse Plemons couldn’t make his own, uniquely. In Breaking Bad and El Camino, he’s Todd Alquist, one of the most despicable characters in the whole of this fictional universe. But Plemons should be allowed to chew through some scenery.

Plemons would be a fascinating choice for the Mutant-experimenting villain Mr. Sinister. He could play into the showmanship of the character and the bizarreness of his look, but there would be some much-needed depth from the actor as well, who could surely dive into the psychology of the warped mind.
