Wonder Woman Cameo Reportedly Set For Shazam 2
Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is reportedly set to cameo in Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Since her debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman has evolved into one of the DC Extended Universe’s most popular characters. Gal Gadot’s solo film cemented her status as the new face of the DCEU, and she went on to appear in Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984. There are currently plans for her to return to Wonder Woman 3, but her future beyond that is unconfirmed.
Warner Bros. and DC Films are building out their DCEU slate, which includes Shazam: Fury of the Gods. After trying to play catchup with Marvel Studios to create an equal cinematic superhero universe, the new DCEU approach is to make the movies more standalone. The Suicide Squad hardly connected itself to the original film or Harley Quinn’s prior appearance, while Wonder Woman 1984 also didn’t worry much about the wider canon. Shazam! was slightly various in this way, as it featured a neck-down cameo from Superman at the very end. There has been hoping that Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel could make a proper impression in Shazam 2 as a result.
While Superman could still appear in Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the latest rumor is that Wonder Woman will be the film’s DCEU cameo. This report comes from The Illuminerdy. The outlet didn’t provide any details on what exactly Gal Gadot’s role in the sequel will be, but describing it as a cameo illustrates that it won’t be a major one if Wonder Woman does appear. This will be Gadot’s fifth DCEU impression as Wonder Woman if it happens. Due to the nature of this rumor, it is best to take it with a grain of salt, but it might also remain an official secret until Shazam 2 is released in 2023.
Wonder Woman appearing in Shazam 2 could make sense based on the film’s reported villains. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler are playing three goddesses and the daughters of Atlas: Hespera, Kalypso, and an unnamed daughter played by Zegler. Wonder Woman’s origin is tied to the DCEU’s gods, as Zeus is her father. She also has experience fighting Ares, so the existence of other gods could attract her attention in the present day. If that is the case, Shazam: Fury of the Gods using Wonder Woman villains could result in her teaming up with Shazam.
The likelihood of Wonder Woman having a cameo in Shazam 2 could also be a sign of how the DCEU is starting to connect different parts of the universe. Shazam is already known to Superman, so having him meet other heroes can strengthen his ties to the universe’s future. This could help set him up to appear alongside Wonder Woman in the next iteration of the Justice League. Then again, Wonder Woman’s appearance could also have less to do with Shazam and more so the gods he’s fighting. Due to the secrecy surrounding Zegler’s role and the West Side Story star’s rising popularity, it’d be fascinating to see Gadot send her character under Wonder Woman’s wing. In any case, Wonder Woman’s Shazam: Fury of the Gods cameo would certainly be welcomed.
