Loki Season 2 Should Make Tom Hiddleston A Thor Variant

Tom Hiddleston’s retrieval for Loki season 2 should include him taking advantage of a Thor variant. Thanks to the time travel conspiracy of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios found another way to bring Hiddleston’s Loki back from the dead. This made his Disney+ show apparent, as it followed a Loki variant built when he escaped from the Avengers in 2012 using the Tesseract. Loki season 1 story unravelled from there, with the beginning of the Time Variance Authority and research of the multiverse. Hiddleston’s time as the god of mischief isn’t over, however, with Loki coming back for a second season.

One of the several highlights of Loki was the use of variants, which are established whenever the TVA grabbed someone from the Sacred Timeline for doing something that wasn’t planned. Loki has more variants than almost any other person in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Loki season 1 featuring Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Classic Loki (Richard E. Grant), Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Boastful Loki (Deobia Oparei), and more. Still, the season finally confirmed that everyone in the TVA from Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) to He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) were variants in some form.

With Loki season 2 on the way, it is anticipated that variants will once again play a key part in the story, especially with Hiddleston’s Loki stopping in a different timeline. Even with all of the Loki variants in the show already, season one gave Hiddleston a small minor role as President Loki. There is room for Hiddleston to have more fun in Loki season 2 when it comes to playing variants by making him a Thor variant. While Hiddleston has celebrated a run in the MCU that will last more than a decade as Loki, he originally auditioned to play the god of thunder (with an American accent). After not reaching the role, Loki season 2 provides a unique chance for him and Marvel to include a meta-reference to what could’ve been.

Hiddleston playing a Thor variant in Loki season 2 isn’t as unusual as it might sound at first. One of the recurring parts of the show’s use of variants so far has been how they can look varied. Season 1 featured a female Loki, Lokis of different nationalities, and the fan-favourite alligator Loki. It even included a Frog Thor (or Throg) variant Easter egg, with Chris Hemsworth giving the voice. Due to Hemsworth’s busy schedule, he might not ever have time to make a cameo in Loki. But, it would be extremely fun for Hiddleston to put on the blonde wig, wield Mjolnir, and give fans a flavour of how he might have played the god of thunder.

As fun as it would be for Hiddleston to play a Thor variant, it is uncommon how that could or would fit into Loki season 2’s story. The new season is still in the first phases of development, but there is necessarily a boulevard for Hiddleston to get this chance in some capacity. Even if it is something as small as his President Loki impression in Loki episode 5, a Hiddleston Thor would be amazing to see in Loki season 2.
