Fantastic Beasts 3 Trailer: Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald Declares War On Muggles
Warner Bros. releases the official Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer offering deeper insight into the Harry Potter prequel. The upcoming film marks the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts series, with overall franchise vet David Yates once again at the helm with a script from author J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore picks up a few years after the events of its predecessor in the time leading up to the Wizarding World’s involvement in World War II and will see the titular Hogwarts professor entrust Newt Scamander and his friends to embark on a mission that will clash with the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald and his growing army.
Eddie Redmayne once again leads the ensemble cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore alongside returning stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tech, Jessica Williams, and Jude Law. The film will see a big shift in its casting with the introduction of Mads Mikkelsen to the franchise as Grindelwald, with the star replacing the previous actor Johnny Depp due to lawsuits regarding his marriage with Amber Heard. Following delays due to the ongoing pandemic, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore commenced filming in September 2020 and would finally conclude in February 2021.
With just a few months remaining until the film’s arrival, Warner Bros. has revealed the official Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer. The video offers a deeper look at the dangerous mission Newt and his friends embark upon as well as giving the first proper look at Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald.
The first Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer comes with plenty of exciting reveals and teases for audiences to unpack, namely a proper look at Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald after being featured in last week’s brief teaser. The recasting of the dark wizard has been one of the more discussed elements of the film for the past year and his new design is certainly a drastic change from Johnny Depp’s more outlandish white hair, pale skin, and thin mustache. Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald also looks to be a far more abrasive and actionable version of the character as he seeks to declare war on muggles.
Some of the more fun takeaways from the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer are the reveal that Dan Fogler’s muggle Jacob is being gifted a wand from Dumbledore as well as the tease of further magizoology work from Newt. The trailer also hints at further explorations of a ’30s era Hogwarts and Dumbledore’s work as a professor, with a return to the grand dining hall seen in the original Harry Potter films as well as a nice nod to his future as the school’s headmaster with a mention of issuing points to Newt’s old house Hufflepuff. The wait for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore isn’t long as the threequel prequel arrives in theatres on April 15.
