Most Controversial – Cuties is now streaming on Netflix
Cuties, a French language coming-of-age movie finally released on Netflix. The movie focuses on the lead character – Amy, an 11-year-old girl who is caught between her family’s conservative culture and her dance troupe neighbors. As she struggles to fit in the troupe but that’s something which her mother is against from the start.
As the dilemma builds-up, being an 11-year-old, Amy struggles to cope up with the situation. The movie is a Maïmouna Doucouré’s directorial debut who had received death threats after the release of the first poster of the movie.
However, the poster wasn’t any way her choice to release as it was Netflix’s decision to release the poster which caught the hyped controversy. After the release of the poster, the movie got a lot of complaints due to the choice of the poster. However, the poster has been later removed as it was focused on the over-sexualization of young girls.
The movie earliest has received a lot of praise at the Sundance Film Festival as it portrays the over-sexualization of young girls.
