Netflix announced the adaptation of Chinese author Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem through a new series. The series will be created by Game of Thrones creator duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as a part of their overall deal with the streaming service.

The Three-Body Problem will be an alien contact drama. Liu Cixin and Ken Liu together will be consulting series producers to create the series.

Liu Cixin’s trilogy will be the most ambitious science-fiction series that will cover a vast timeline starting from the 1960s until the end of time. Additionally, it will also expand the universe beyond earth covering the distant fringes of the universe.

Benioff and Weiss talking about the series said, “We look forward to spending the next years of our lives bringing this to life for audiences around the world.” This series will be the first project of the duo’s multi-year deal signed last year with Netflix.

The first part of the trilogy covers the story of the first contact between humans and alien civilization. Before joining hands with Netflix, the duo directed comedian Leslie Jones’ Netflix stand-up special, Time Machine. They were also supposed to write and work on a new Star Wars trilogy but they left the project in late 2019.
