Top 8 New Netflix Original Series To Watch In July 2024
Here are eight new shows on Netflix that you should have on your radar this July. For the full list of what’s coming up on Netflix throughout July 2024, keep it locked here.
Most Anticipated Netflix Original Series Coming in July 2024
Cobra Kai (Season 6 – Part 1)
Coming to Netflix: July 18th
What a journey Cobra Kai and its characters have been on. Beginning as a YouTube show before catching fire on Netflix, we’ll see The Karate Kid spin-off series bow out with a supersized final season, which the creators have said is comprised of three mini-seasons.
Here is the official synopsis for part 1: “With Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the karate world championships.”
These first five episodes will be followed by another five in November, with the Finale Event set for sometime in 2025.
Exploding Kittens (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: July 15th
As a massive fan of the card game and subsequent Netflix mobile game release, I’m looking forward to seeing how this new adult-animated series works because, on paper, it’s a bit batshit crazy.
Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman (the co-creators behind the game) are on board for the series depicting the eternal conflict between God and the Antichrist as they live their days reincarnated as chubby house cats.
The impressive voice cast assembled for the series includes Suzy Nakamura, Tom Ellis, Ally Maki, Mark Proksch, and Sasheer Zamata.
Vikings: Valhalla (Season 3)
Coming to Netflix: July 11th
After 24 episodes and three seasons, Vikings: Valhalla will be bowing out with this third and final batch, coming over two years since Season 1 first debuted on the streamer.
Continuing the momentum garnered from prior seasons of the historical drama, this season will take place seven years after the climactic events of Season 2, with Freydis now the leader of pagan Jomsborg. However, new looming threats and challenges await in the distance.
One of our team members has already watched the entirety of Season 3, and given what he’s told me about it (I can’t share exact details as he’s under embargo until the day of release), it sounds like the series will be going out on a high note.
Kleo (Season 2)
Coming to Netflix: July 25th
For our final pick, we look internationally to Germany, which is about to release the second (and somewhat unexpected) season of its explosive period drama thriller, Kleo, headlined by Jella Haase.
When it debuted two years ago on Netflix, the first season received a slew of great reviews, although it never really broke through to international regions. Set after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the series follows a spy set free on a quest for revenge.
Per Netflix, here’s what you can expect going into the second season:
“The hunt for the red suitcase continues, as former GDR spy Kleo is determined to retrieve it and destroy it for good – while West Berlin police officer Sven is trying to do everything he can to redeem himself in Kleo’s eyes and work with her again. She’s exactly the dose of adrenaline he’s been missing in his work.”
Best Licensed Series Coming to Netflix in July 2024
Lost (Seasons 1-6)
Added to Netflix: July 1st
By the time you’re reading this, all six seasons of Lost are already streaming on Netflix. Following its return, the show has already generated a lot of buzz from the media and some controversial takes, including one about which episodes to skip—blasphemy!
Arguably one of the most influential TV shows in history, Lost follows a group of survivors who crash-land on a strange and mysterious island. It features some very recognizable stars, and while some parts of the show haven’t necessarily aged gracefully, it’s a worthwhile endeavor if you’ve never seen it before.
Only Netflix in the US received Lost on the first of the month, although we’re told that other regions will also receive it later in the year.
Star Trek: Prodigy (Season 2)
Coming to Netflix: July 1st
Much like Lost, by the time you’re reading this, season 2 of the animated Star Trek series Prodigy is already streaming. Given that Netflix rescued this series from being lost media, you’d have thought it’d be labeled a Netflix Original, but that’s not the case, which is why we’ve got it listed here.
Added to the streamer globally, season 2 picks up where the first left off following six young outcasts assigned a new mission aboard the U.S.S. Voyager-A to rescue Captain Chakotay.
Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: July 8th
Sticking with animation, we move on to the highly anticipated Kinnikuman series that will drop on Netflix in the US and other countries around the globe every week beginning on July 8th.
Coming from the studio behind Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, Ultraman, Great Pretender, and countless other beloved anime titles, this new entry in the manga adaptation sees Kinnikuman returning to the ring to battle new and familiar foes.
Prison Break
Coming to Netflix: July 29th
Weirdly, Netflix omitted Prison Break when previewing July’s arrivals and gave press outlets a preview of what’s coming up for the month. Thankfully, we confirmed that Prison Break is still set to return to Netflix after several years of being exclusive to Hulu.
Engaging in every single episode with the show not letting its foot off the gas throughout its entire 90 episodes, you’ll follow Michael Scofield trying to break out his brother Lincoln Burrows from a state facility after being wrongly accused of murder.
Given all the hubbub about revivals and reboots (still in the works), there’s no better time to revisit the Fox River State Penitentiary.
