M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Servant’ Gets Blu-ray Release After Seven Years On Apple TV
M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological horror series Servant is getting a new release, giving fans another opportunity to experience the acclaimed Apple TV series.
Shyamalan became a household name following the release of The Sixth Sense in 1999. The psychological thriller established the filmmaker as a major name in twist-driven and mind-bending cinema. He later directed films including Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002), The Village (2004), and Split (2016). In 2019, Shyamalan expanded his work into television with Servant, which went on to receive a strong critical response.
Seven years after its debut on Apple TV, Servant is preparing to make its way to physical media. According to a new Amazon listing, Servant: The Complete Series will be released on Blu-ray on December 1. The collection includes all four seasons of the psychological horror series and is currently available for pre-order.
Created by Tony Basgallop, Servant follows a Philadelphia couple whose lives are devastated by a tragic event. Their grief eventually creates an opening for a mysterious presence to enter their home, setting the stage for the series’ unsettling story.
Shyamalan served as an executive producer and showrunner on the series and also directed five episodes. The cast includes Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, Rupert Grint, and Toby Kebbell.
The series, which concluded in 2023, was also well received by critics. Servant holds a 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its fourth and final season earned a 100% critics’ score. The show’s Popcornmeter score stands at 78%. Its critical reception and apparent audience interest helped the series continue for four seasons.
For Shyamalan, Servant represented his second major television venture after he directed an episode of Wayward Pines in 2015. However, Servant became his most substantial contribution to streaming television, spanning four seasons between 2019 and 2023.
His work on Servant also coincided with several major feature-film projects. During the show’s run, Shyamalan released Glass (2019), Old (2021), and Knock at the Cabin (2023). His most recent feature was Trap (2024), which starred Josh Hartnett.
The Blu-ray release arrives as Shyamalan prepares for his next major film, Remain. The upcoming movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 7 next year and marks a collaboration between Shyamalan and author Nicholas Sparks. Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor are set to star in the film.
The physical-media release of Servant also comes at a time when Apple continues to build a strong television lineup. Shows including Widow’s Bay, Slow Horses, and Silo have contributed to the platform’s success in the television space.
It remains unclear whether Shyamalan will return to television for another major series. However, Servant represents a significant part of his television career. With the complete series finally arriving on Blu-ray, fans and newcomers alike may have another chance to revisit the chilling Apple TV psychological horror series.
