The Plot: 435 Miles to Redemption

Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) is a veteran endurance racer desperate for one final victory after a humiliating defeat years earlier. Assembling a team that includes his trusted teammate Olivia (Nathalie Emmanuel), veteran racer Chik (Ali Suliman), and social-media influencer Viktor (Simu Liu), Michael sets his sights on the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic.

During a grueling 435-mile trek across jungles, rivers, and mountains, Michael feeds a meatball to a battered, homeless stray dog at a transition station. Impressively, the dog tracks the team across rugged terrain over hundreds of miles. Naming him Arthur, the team adopts him as an official member, risking their championship lead to save Arthur’s life during dangerous river crossings.

Performances: Mark Wahlberg and Ukai the Dog

Mark Wahlberg turns in a grounded performance, capturing the obsessive drive of an elite athlete while showcasing a gentler, compassionate side as he bonds with Arthur. Simu Liu adds energetic banter, while Nathalie Emmanuel brings physical conviction to the intense racing sequences.

The true standout, however, is Ukai, the dog who portrays Arthur. His expressive eyes convey deep loyalty and resilience without resorting to digital trickery or anthropomorphic tropes.
